Irregular Migrants: the Urgent Need for a New Approach
This report identifies some of the key questions related to irregular migration to the UK. The report is based on the interviews with irregular migrants as well as three roundtable sessions with key representatives of non-governmental organisations and trade unions, academics, public sector workers and migrant activists. The report describes different aspects of irregular migration, such as reasons for coming to the UK, ways of measuring irregular migration and comparison to other countries, employment, regularisation of immigration status, border control and deportation. Throughout the report specific emphasis is given to wellbeing of migrant children and family unification.
